May 2022

Location

Lynchburg, VA

Role

Bassist

A Thousand Words is the third album in saxophonist Joseph Henson's (Musical Director of the US Army Blues, Director of Jazz Studies at Liberty University) catalogue and was the first jazz album Jonah ever played on. Featuring nine original compositions from Henson, Jonah got the gig from being a member of Henson's jazz combo class during his time at Liberty University and performing in Henson's quartet around Virginia. When the album was recorded in May of 2022, Jonah had only been playing bass for ten months, couldn't read music, and was completely new to jazz. It was a huge learning experience especially working with seasoned veterans like Tim Whalen on keyboards (US Army Band "Perishing's Own), Jay Ware (Coordinator of Percussion and Drum Set Studies at Liberty University), and Nathan Zwald (Grammy Nominated Recording/Mix Engineer and Nashville Studio Veteran).
