Scott Vestal's bluegrass annual series has stood as one of the benchmarks of the period's interpretation of bluegrass instrumental standards since its inception in 1995. In the summer of 2021 at age 19, Jonah got asked by Scott Vestal to be the featured mandolinist on the upcoming 2022 iteration of the annual series after Vestal had worked with him as the engineer of The Trailblazer's "Space and Time" project. It was Jonah's first session as a sideman and it was filled with heavy hitters: Cody Kilby on guitar (Ricky Skaggs, The Travelin' McCourys, 2022 IBMA Guitar Player of the Year); Randy Kohrs on dobro (Dolly Parton, Grammy Award winner); Byron House on upright bass (Nickel Creek, Sam Bush Band); Tim Crouch on fiddle (Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton); and Scott Vestal on banjo (Sam Bush Band, The John Cowan Band). Bluegrass 2022 received multiple final ballot IBMA nominations in 2022 and 2023 and landed Jonah a 2022 second ballot nomination for IBMA mandolin player of the year.
